If you're choosing to have a father/daughter, mother/son or some variation of parent dances at your wedding, here is a huge and simple tip to make your parent dances more exciting for you and your guests:

INVITE YOUR GUESTS TO JOIN YOU!

Here's the thing, a lot of couples will choose to end these dances short (sometimes only a minute long) because they feel super awkward with everyone staring at them. Or couples will dance just them and their parent for a full 3 minute song and (let's be perfectly honest) that does actually get to be a bit boring for your guests.

A great alternative is to have the bride or groom share the first part of the dance alone with their parent, then keep the song going and have the DJ or band invite different father/daughter or mother/son pairs in the room to join!

This is something Jason and I did at our wedding and we love how our guests responded! We had people tell us how meaningful it was to dance with their adult son and young grandson; or how they couldn't remember the last time they danced with both their daughters.

This was a simple (and free- for real, how often does that happen in wedding planning??) addition to our wedding day that had a big impact on the experience for our guests! They told us later on how they loved making these special memories together- no one was bored and no one felt awkward! And selfishly, as a photographer, we got some really sweet photos in our gallery to share with our guests!
