FAQ

What is it like to work with you?

A.I think I'm fun and comfortable to work with! My former career as a child life specialist had me working with hospitalized children, which has allowed me to have both an animated personality and an ability to handle stress and go with the flow! But check out my reviews to see what my couples have said it's like to book with me!

How do I book you?

A.For any session or wedding, to officially book, we need a signed contract and deposit.

The contract is sent to you and your partner via email and must be signed by both of you.

Along with this, weddings require a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. Elopements & Microweddings require a $150 non-refundable deposit. And all portrait sessions require a $75 non-refundable deposit. For the deposit, you can either send a check via mail or send it electronically with Zelle.

Once I receive a signed contract and deposit, we're all set!

How many photos do I get?

A.Currently, I'm delivering around 75 different edited photos per hour on wedding days. This number fluctuates depending on the flow of the day.

I never limit the amount of photos you get in your gallery. You get all pictures, except the "three B's" (blinking, bad, blurry)!

How do I get my photos?

A.All your photos will be uploaded to an online gallery. With the online gallery, you'll be able to share the link with your friends and family or share your pictures directly to social media. You'll also be able to download the photos to any device or order professional prints directly from your gallery. This gallery is availble online for two months.

Do we get a print release?

A.Yupp! Every wedding/session comes with a print release. This allows you to print photos wherever/however you like, though there's always the option to order prints directly from the gallery.
A photo release does NOT give others permission to edit photos.

How long does it take to get our pictures?

A.For a wedding (or elopement/microwedding), I guarantee your edited online gallery will be uploaded within 8 weeks from your wedding date.
For a portrait session, I will upload your images to the online gallery in 6 weeks.

What is your photography style?

A.My shooting style is a mix of editorial and documentary. The editorial shooting comes into play as I suggest poses and direction to create a beautiful picture. Times where I might offer more of this guidance is during family formals and portraits of the wedding party and couple. While my couples are helped through posing, they often still look and feel authentic and natural in the photos.
The documentary style of shooting is more prevalent during "getting ready", ceremony, reception and cocktail hour. Here, I'm more of a fly-on-the-wall, capturing moments as they occur!

My editing style is more light and airy. Colors that can be heavy or distracting are toned-down and shadows are lightened. Overall, my pictures look bright and clean.

What is the 50/50 Tease?

A.The 50/50 Tease is 50 edited photos posted to the Kristyn Romell Photography Facebook page within 50 hours of your reception exit.

Who's your second shooter?

A.My favorite second shooter to work with is my husband, Jason! You'll see some of his work throughout my website.
I do have a few other second shooters in the DMV you may meet, if Jason is unavailable for your wedding day.

Are there any travel fees?

A.Sometimes, yes. If you are within 50 miles round trip of my Alexandria, Virginia location (22310) there are no fees! If your wedding/session is outside this range, there is an additional $0.65/mile fee, or whatever the current IRS mileage rate is.

What if I want you to shoot my wedding/session and I don't live in the DMV?

A.If you're outside the DMV I'm super willing to work it out with you! This depends on where your event is, but let's chat about it!

Is there a fee if my wedding is on a holiday?

A.Yes. There is a 10% fee added to your coverage price if your wedding date is on a federal holiday.

Do you have backup camera?

A.Yes! During sessions and wedding days I always carry a backup camera with me. My backup is a Canon EOS 90D.

Do you have liability insurance?

A.Absolutely yes!

What do you shoot with?

A.My camera is a Canon R6! I use various Canon prime lenses throughout the day and also use Canon flashes (on-camera and off-camera), when needed.

Yeah, but I'm really into photography and would love to see a list of your equipment?
